planning
The two-year calendar
When forms open, when exams cluster, and when results collide with counselling. The squeeze points are predictable — which means they can be planned around.
Class 11
The year most students spend assuming it doesn't count yet.
| When | What happens | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Apr–Jun | Class 11 begins | The one window where changing stream or subjects is usually still easy. Also the time to start any long-runway preparation. |
| Jul–Sep | Board registration | Class 11 subjects get locked with your board. Confirm your subject list is exactly what you intended. |
| Oct–Dec | First serious tests | Half-yearlies plus, if you're preparing, your first real mock scores. Treat these as diagnosis, not judgement. |
| Dec–Jan | Design and law calendars open | NID and UCEED fall around now, and CLAT runs in December for the following year. If these interest you, Class 11 is when you start, not Class 12. |
| Jan–Mar | Class 11 finals | Also the point to fix your exam shortlist for Class 12, and to get category and domicile documents made. |
| Mar–May | The most valuable months you have | The gap before Class 12 is the last long uninterrupted stretch of preparation time. Almost every strong result is built here. |
Class 12
Every deadline in one place beats remembering them one at a time.
| When | What happens | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Jun–Aug | Class 12 begins | Syllabus completion and revision run in parallel from here. Set the weekly schedule now — it won't get easier later. |
| Sep–Nov | Application season opens | Forms for early exams start appearing. Build one tracker with every deadline, fee and document. Overseas deadlines also fall here. |
| Nov–Jan | Early exams | CLAT, AILET, NID and UCEED cluster here — right in the middle of the school year. Plan around them deliberately. |
| Dec–Feb | Board practicals and pre-boards | Easy to under-prepare while chasing entrance exams. Practical and internal marks are real marks. |
| Feb–Mar | Board exams | Also the JEE Main first session and NIFT for many. This is the tightest squeeze in the calendar. |
| Apr–Jun | Entrance season | Most national and state entrances land here — JEE Main session 2, JEE Advanced, NEET, CUET, state CETs, IPMAT, BITSAT and NATA. Watch for date clashes when choosing sessions. |
| Jun–Aug | Results and counselling | Multiple counselling rounds, each with its own deadlines, fees and document checks. Missing a round costs a seat. Keep every certificate scanned and ready. |
| Aug–Sep | Second chances | Spot rounds, vacant-seat rounds, later private and state admissions, and additional CUET-based rounds. Many students stop looking too early. |
These windows shift every year. Treat this as the shape of the two years, not a timetable. Confirm every actual date on the exam body's own website — each exam page here links to it.
This page is guidance, not data. The months are typical rather than announced, which is exactly why they carry no source and no checked date.
